Central Florida Track Officials - Training Tip #2
Occasionally
the question is asked, "Why must we certify each year?" To help us
understand - NFHSAA statistics for the school year 2007-8 report
1,417,399 boys and girls participated in Track and Cross Country.
Obviously, this number of people require equipment, coaching,
participation opportunities, officials, etc.
Staying
abreast of these numbers requires constant change, training, and
re-training. Unlike some of the other Rule Books, high school books are
published annually. Our re-certification entitles us to the new books,
testing materials, identification materials, insurance and subsequent
officiating opportunities. The arrival of these materials encourages us
to once again move our best officiating foot forward.
It behooves us
to respect the rules set forth by each and every administrative body -
NFHSAA, NCAA, USAT&F, IAAF and AAU. They each are set for specific
circumstances.
For instance -
more attention must be paid to Doping in some organizations than others.
Our Central
Florida Track Officials Association aspires to have the best trained and
diverse group of officials to be found anywhere. Please work toward
that end through training, assisting others, and respecting fellow
officials, athletes and the coaches with which we work.
