This week marks the start of the Florida Series
All of us, who will be working district, regional and state meets,
should refresh our memories by glancing through pages 54-55 of the
FHSAA
Officials Guidebook
and the green FHSAA Track & Field Manual.
Particularly note - qualifying procedure from district to regional and
regional to state - fourth place ties must be broken - include this in
pre-event instructions.
If there is a Coaches Meeting scheduled, try to attend for information.
Review qualification procedures from preliminaries to finals - they
change within the series - nine qualifiers on nine lane track and at the
state meet - eight qualify otherwise and ties must be broken to get to
eight.
Team mates in an event must wear identical uniforms.
Scratched contestants are disqualified from further participating. Use
proper terminology for example - A field event person can forfeit
attempts by passing them but don't allow the athlete to say "I'm
scratching my other attempt or attempts".
The new field event procedure is "16 thru 1" for both prelims and
finals.
What we sometimes call 'worst to first'.
Lapped runner in excess of the # of places to be awarded in the 1600
and 3200 are removed at District Meets. Moved to outer lanes at
Regional Meets.(207.02 (2)(d) green book).
Write up Violations - it is vital in this series - many times these are
contested to FHSAA and it is easier to support if well documented.
COMPLETE ALL PAPER WORK IF UNSPORTSMANLIKE ACTS OCCUR -
This is essential since Suspension are assigned in these instances.
